How to merge shapes in Microsoft PowerPoint in 2022?

In this article, we will learn how we can merge two are more shapes. In the following result we can see there we applied merge on a single shape then it changes into different results. There are five different merge shape results like union, combine, fragment, intersect, and subtract.

As we know that while working with PowerPoint we need to insert such shape that don't exist in PowerPoint shape pane then we have to use this process.

In this process there are different type of merge shapes option and each result product the different result in Microsoft PowerPoint. Now we will discuss one by one in this article.

  1. Union
  2. Combine
  3. Fragment
  4. Intersect
  5. Subtract

In the format tab then insert shapes then we can see that there is "Merge Shapes". We can apply Merge shapes on two shapes minimum. We can't apply Merge Shapes on a single shape.

After selecting shapes then select Merge Shapes then pop down menu will be open then we can see different Alignment options will appear.

Union:

First of all, we have to select shapes then if we want to combine shapes then apply "Union" and we can use union function.

In union both two shapes combined each another and then the shape will converted into a single shapes. As you can see in the following example there are two shapes above when we apply union to it then following two result show.

If we will select the green circle first then we will select the black circle then after union we will see only green color to our combine shape. If we will select the black circle first then green circle then our combined with the black color.

Combine:

In combine shapes are combine into a single shape and the common portion of both the shapes are deleted. The dominated color will be the first selected shape. As we can see that there are two shapes if we will select the green color first then the whole shape after will be the green color and vice versa.

Fragment:

In fragment the both s happens are converted into a fragment. That's means that all shapes are changes into part and we can separate the parts and use for our purpose and if there is something that does not want into our PowerPoint slides then just click it and press the delete button.

It's looks a combine shapes but they are not combine and now if you want to separate it then you can just click the right hand part and the left hand part and separate a little bit on the side.

Intersect:

In this type intersect part remains behind that is common to each another.

Subtract:

Only the first part remain behind and the combine and the second shape remains the same.
